How To Relax

One of the most important things that people need these days is good workable way to relax. There are many ways to accomplish relaxation but it seems that not enough people are taking advantage of the good information out there. Our lives can be enhanced in a matter of minutes if we learn to conduct our days in a more relaxed manner. There is no need to be stressed when there is no danger. Stress and anxiety are not mental/emotional states that are good for our health. Following is a very effective way to relax. It can be used anywhere at any time of day or night. It is not a new way; it is just an effective way. It has been used for many years and it works. It is called progressive relaxation; here’s what you need to do:

1. Find a place to get comfortable. Lying down is probably the best posture, but a comfortable chair or recliner works well too.

2. Be sure that there are no distractions. Total quiet is best but using a tape containing soft sounds of Nature may help the relaxation process.

3. Loosen tight clothing, remove hats, shoes, and anything else that may distract you.

4. Mentally start with the lower limbs. Purposefully relax the muscles in your legs. Small muscles first, then larger muscles, until your legs feel loose.

5. Next cause the muscles of your trunk to relax. Just let every part of your body "sink" into the couch. Don’t forget to relax your lower back muscles too; this is where a lot of tension tends to build up.

6. The upper body is next. Your chest area, upper back area, arms, and shoulders should be allowed to release their tension into the couch a little at a time. You will be able to feel the muscle relaxation as you progress up the body.

7. Finally, the face, neck, and scalp are allowed to relax. By now, every part of the body will be supported by the couch, not your muscles.

8. Remain in this relaxed posture for ten minutes or more. If you find yourself tensing a muscle, then focus on that one muscle and cause it to relax once again.

9. Practice makes perfect, just as in anything else. The more you follow this simple routine, the better and more effective it will become.

10. Use this procedure when you go to bed at night. It is an excellent way to fall asleep. You will wake up refreshed in the morning.
