Children are the future of our Nation. That is to say, we must at some point realize that the upcoming generations are tomorrow’s citizens. When our generation grows gray, our children must take the responsibility for our country’s continuance as a healthy, vibrant Nation. That said; we must take steps now to see to it that our children are up to the task. What we need are healthy citizens that adhere to good habits in keeping themselves strong and fit. As the Boy Scouts used to say: “stay physically strong, mentally awake, and morally straight”.
One of the problems facing us today is the poor quality of our food and the poor eating habits that have emerged over the past few generations. It is vitally necessary that we get back to proper eating habits that will foster good health if we expect our children to prosper. Here are a few suggestions to get the kids back on the road to health and to better habits.
- Pay attention to what all of us (parents and children) are eating. Whatever parents do, we can expect the kids to emulate. So far, most of us aren’t setting a great example.
- Remove ALL junk food from what we eat. Junk food is actually poisonous to our health. It robs our bodies of energy and nutrients while not providing anything to promote health.
- Teach the kids what is good food. Fruit and vegetables should be the mainstay of any dietary; lean meat or fish once a week.
- Shop at local farmer’s markets and roadside stands where you know the food is grown.
- If the food comes in through your car’s window – don’t eat it! Don’t get your body’s fuel where your car gets its fuel (don’t buy food at a gas station).
