Buy in Bulk to Save Money

Most people understand that if you buy in quantity, you will save money. This is normally true for most items that we buy on a regular basis. There are two ways to buy in bulk. One way is to buy the large size instead of the small size. Cereal, for example, is available in super large containers and it is also sold in very small boxes, the individual serving size. The smaller size box is cheaper than the large box but it may actually be more expensive. Most manufacturers of food products will provide the cost per ounce information on the store shelf right under the product. It is usually printed so small that the average person may need a magnifying glass to read. By looking at this price per ounce, and comparing it with the different size containers, you will see that the larger box is selling the product cheaper than the smaller container. Be aware that you must compare the same product. Different brands are priced differently.
The other way to buy in bulk is to buy the item in commercial sizes or by the pallet. In most cases, these are not available in regular stores, but you may find these types of packaging in Sam’s or Costco’s. Always read the labels and price per ounce information before you buy anything. Sometimes the prices quoted are for quantities so large that it would not be cost effective for the average consumer. Another thing to consider when buying in bulk is your storage space at home. Can you store all that food at once? Will the food stay fresh at home until you can use it?
